Find Your Youthful Figure with a Breast Lift
If your breasts have started to sag with age, you may be a good candidate for a breast lift at our Halifax, Nova Scotia, practice. A breast lift will raise sagging tissues to restore the youthful contour of your bust line. Dr. Richard Bendor-Samuel and Dr. Louis Boileau can use several techniques to perform your breast lift. After examining your natural body type and discussing your treatment goals, they will determine the right option for you. Contact The Landings Surgical Centre to learn more about the breast lift procedure.
Candidates for a Breast Lift
If you are embarrassed by sagging skin or displaced pockets of fat in your breasts, a breast lift may be right for you. The procedure can also be a good option if your nipples have shifted or if you have stretched areolas.
If you have lost volume in your breasts, you may also qualify for a breast lift with augmentation. For optimal results, you should have some remaining skin elasticity so that your breasts will have a smooth, natural look following your surgery.
In addition to your cosmetic goals, we will also consider your overall health when determining whether a breast lift is right for you. To qualify for treatment, you should be at a healthy and stable weight. Also, you should not have any autoimmune or blood disorders that could compromise healing.
Your Surgery: What to Expect
Typically, you will be under general anesthesia during your breast lift surgery. Dr. Bendor-Samuel or Dr. Boileau will create incisions in your breasts. Next, the stretched skin or excess tissue will be removed. In many cases, we will also perform liposuction to eliminate unwanted pockets of fat. If needed, we can reposition your nipples and trim away excess skin from the outside of your areolas.
Following breast lift surgery, you will experience some swelling and irritation. You can minimize these effects by wearing a compression garment, taking mild pain medications, and following all post-operative instructions. You should plan to take at least two weeks off from work, and should avoid strenuous physical activities for about one month. There should be an immediate improvement in your appearance, though you may not notice the full results of your breast lift for several months after the procedure.
Types of Procedures
At The Landings Surgical Centre, we offer several types of breast lifts, including:
- Anchor Lift: Anchor lifts are the original type of breast lift, and they remain a very popular option. Your surgeon will create three incisions. One will circle your areola, another will extend from your areola to your breast crease, and a third will run along your breast crease. This type of lift allows the most versatility in achieving surgical goals but is not always necessary.
- Crescent Lift: During a crescent breast lift, your surgeon will remove a crescent-shaped piece of tissue from just above your areola. If you only desire a slight lift, you may qualify for this procedure. This technique is less common, due to its limited use.
- Lollipop Lift: The lollipop lift requires only two incisions: one encircling your areola and another running down to your breast crease. This procedure is useful in a number of situations especially when only a limited reduction of tissue is desired from each breast.
- Benelli Lift: During a Benelli lift, we will only need to create one incision around your areolas. This procedure will result in minimal scarring. However, it is typically suitable only if you have naturally small breasts, or if you desire a slight lift.
Benefits of a Breast Lift
Whatever type of breast lift you undergo, you can experience a transformed appearance, helping you look years younger and pounds slimmer. In some cases, the surgery can even have health benefits.
For instance, it can eliminate the chafing and discomfort caused by severely sagging breasts. Whether you have a major lift, or your results are very subtle, a breast lift can help you feel much more confident about your figure.
