About BOTOX® Cosmetic

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a revolutionary product available at our practice to treat frown lines, crow's feet, and other stubborn facial wrinkles. These wrinkles form over time as the muscles that control a person's facial expressions repeatedly contract. BOTOX® injections relax these muscles, smoothing away wrinkles for months at a time. The difference is subtle, but provides a more youthful facial appearance. There other neuro-modulators on the market now and ones like Nuceiva® are also giving equally amazing results

BOTOX® Cosmetic is composed of a purified protein which is synthesized in a laboratory from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Though the bacterium itself is dangerous, BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are entirely safe when administered by Dr. Bendor-Samuel.

The most common complication is a slight, temporary drooping of the eyelid. BOTOX® Cosmetic is used in extremely small amounts and does not spread throughout the body, so patients can return to full activity immediately. BOTOX® Cosmetic can be used by almost anyone; patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or those who have a neurological disease, should not use BOTOX®.

New uses of BOTOX® include reduction in sweating of hands and armpits and relief of headaches. These treatments may be covered by some health insurance companies or offered to clients without insurance with BOTOX® Cosmetic.

What You Need to Know About Selecting Your Botox Specialist

There are many offices offering BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments to clients and many do not have the experience or expertise to do the procedure safely and effectively. The Landings Surgical Centre in Halifax was the number one provider of BOTOX® Cosmetic in all of Eastern Canada in 2015 and we are proud to continue this high level experience in Neuro-modulators. Our clinic as achieved "Double Black Diamond" status with Allergan, the company who makes BOTOX®. Achieving this distinction is an honour that no other single facility has achieved in Halifax and only a few achieve across Canada. We were chosen to receive this award based on the experience of our injectors, volume and results that we achieve, our trusted injectors, act as teachers to students and other injectors across Canada because of their experience and injection skills.

Dr. Bendor-Samuel and Dr. Boileau are strong proponents of the safe use of BOTOX® Cosmetic in their practice. As such they DO NOT offer treatments outside of their office in un-regulated and unsafe environments such as at parties or private gatherings. They, along with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia, advise that BOTOX® must be given in a clinic under the direct supervision of a Medical Doctor.  The Physicians and nurses offering treatments with BOTOX® at parties are violating their duties to their patients and potentially putting them at risk. Furthermore, we only use BOTOX® Cosmetic which was purchased directly through the company and not from unreliable or illegal sources in China or leftover drugs from other medical practices. We act ethically and do not involve insurance companies in the payment or use of BOTOX® Cosmetic.

When selecting your injector choose one with the experience and professionalism that you will receive at the Landings Surgical  in Halifax. When you choose an experienced and knowledgeable practitioner to administer your BOTOX injections, you can minimize the risks associated with the procedure

What You Need to Know About Your Botox® Treatment

There are now several drugs that can provide a reduction in skin wrinkling(Botox®, Nuceiva®,Xeomin®, Dysport®). All have slightly different mechanisms of action and length of duration. Some last longer than others and may not be as effective but some like Nuceiva® seem to have similar outcomes. Some physicians swap out these other products and don't let their clients know which drug they are actually using while still calling the drug BOTOX®. Make sure you ask your injector if the drug you are receiving is BOTOX® Cosmetic if this is what you have asked for and been led to believe is being administered.

The Treatment Process

The BOTOX® injection process is quick and simple. Patients at our practice often describe it as fast and virtually painless. An assessment is made of the muscles to be targeted, followed by a precise injection of BOTOX® Cosmetic. The entire process takes no longer than 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area being targeted.

Patients are free to return to their normal activities immediately after treatment. BOTOX® injections take effect over the following days, and the results usually last several months before another treatment is required.
