Achieve Slimmer, Shapely Arms with an Arm Lift
Sagging skin on the upper arms is a common effect of aging. If you desire firmer, younger-looking arms, you may be a good candidate for an arm lift at our Halifax, Nova Scotia, cosmetic surgery practice. An arm lift can tighten and smooth loose skin. And when combined with liposuction, the surgery can reduce excess pockets of fat. To learn more about the arm lift procedure, contact our surgeons today.
Typically, you will be administered general anesthesia prior to your surgery. Then the first step is creating a carefully placed incision. The location of the incision can vary significantly, depending on your treatment goals and the amount of skin to be removed. Locations may include:
- Inner arm: An inner arm incision will enable us to remove a moderate amount of tissue, and is one of the most common arm lift techniques.
- Back of arm: If you have a large amount of excess skin, we may recommend making an incision along the back of your arm. This method will enable us to remove skin hanging between your arm and upper torso.
- Minimal incision: For a minor alteration, we can make the incision inside your armpit, and the scarring will be virtually unnoticeable. Unfortunately this option is only useful for a very limited number of patients
Once the incisions have been made, we will trim away the excess skin. Often, we also perform liposuction to remove displaced or excess fat cells. Once your arms have slimmer contours, we will reposition the skin, and close the incisions.
Arm Lift Candidates
If you struggle with hanging skin on your arms, an arm lift may very well be the solution you are looking for. To determine whether you are a good candidate, Dr. Bendor-Samuel or Dr. Boileau will first conduct an evaluation. To undergo cosmetic surgery, you should be at a healthy weight. An arm lift can only address the stubborn fat that exercise and diet cannot alleviate.
We will spend ample time with you before your procedure to explain the risks and benefits of surgery, so that you are able to make a confident and informed decision.
If you plan to lose weight, you should delay arm lift surgery until you have achieved your goal weight. Significant weight loss could further affect the skin on your upper arms. Overall, you should be in good health to undergo arm lift surgery, and not have any serious conditions that could compromise your healing process.
The Pros and Cons
An arm lift can significantly enhance your appearance. Your entire body may look slimmer after arm lift surgery. This can be particularly meaningful if you have recently lost a large amount of weight. After an arm lift, the clothes you have always wanted to wear will now be an option, and your self-confidence may soar.
The primary drawback of arm lift surgery is that it will leave visible scars. However, many patients feel that the benefits of treatment far outweigh this one downside. We will spend ample time with you before your procedure to explain the risks and benefits of surgery. We will review the expected results, including scarring so that you are able to make a confident and informed decision.
