Benefits of a Tummy Tuck after Pregnancy

Many candidates for a tummy tuck have had one or more children and wish to regain their pre-pregnancy body. If you live in Halifax, NS, or Prince Edward Island, one of our experienced plastic surgeons can explain the benefits of tummy tuck after pregnancy.

How Will a Tummy Tuck Restore My Abdomen after Pregnancy?

A tummy tuck performed in our fully accredited facility directly addresses cosmetic issues that arise after pregnancy. A woman's body undergoes major changes during pregnancy. Hormonal changes, increases in calories consumed, and the physical growth of the abdomen as the fetus grows all place stress and pressure on the soft tissues around the lower abdomen.

Following childbirth, many women find that their abdominal skin does not return to its pre-pregnancy appearance. Fat pockets and overstretched abdominal muscles only exacerbate the appearance of stretched skin around the lower stomach.

How a Tummy Tuck Can Help

A tummy tuck directly addresses these cosmetic issues. The procedure can even reduce the appearance of stretch marks. During your cosmetic surgery procedure, one of our experienced plastic surgeons will make an incision below your navel that runs from one hip to the other. This incision is easily hidden by undergarments or a bathing suit.

Your plastic surgeon will then remove excess skin and fat before tightening the abdominal muscles. Once the surgical adjustments are finished, your doctor will artfully pull your abdominal skin into its new position before suturing the incision. In most cases, our patients stay overnight at our waterfront location in Halifax. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to monitor your recovery.

Other Considerations

A tummy tuck is a great option for women who wish to regain a slender body after pregnancy. The procedure is not advised for women who wish to immediately become pregnant again. If you plan on having children again in the future, Dr. Hove will let you know how pregnancy can reverse the results of the tummy tuck.

Complementary Treatment Options

Many women who undergo a tummy tuck after pregnancy are also candidates for breast lift or breast augmentation surgery. Pregnancy and breastfeeding can cause breast sagging. For even more dramatic results, you may be a candidate for a mommy makeover. The comprehensive surgery combines cosmetic breast surgery, liposuction, and a tummy tuck to redefine and sculpt the entire torso.

No matter what your cosmetic goals are, the doctors of The Landings Surgical Center have the skills and experience to help you reach your cosmetic goals.
