Are You a Good Candidate for Juvéderm® Injections? By The Landings Surgical Centre on July 26, 2017

Juvéderm® logoIf you are searching for a way to rejuvenate your facial skin without undergoing a more invasive plastic surgery procedure, then treatment with injectable dermal fillers may be ideal for you. Among the most effective of these dermal fillers is Juvéderm®, which produces long-lasting, natural-looking results that enhance a person’s beauty without the need for a single incision. Juvéderm® injections can safely be repeated as necessary so that hollow areas of the face remain full, plump, and youthful for as long as possible. Patients emerge from treatment with skin that looks refreshed and vibrant, with fewer lines, creases, and wrinkles in key areas.

Fortunately, most patients who are interested in undergoing Juvéderm® injectable treatments are good candidates for the procedure. Drs. Richard Bendor-Samuel and Louis Boileau carefully evaluate Juvéderm® candidates at their Halifax, NS plastic surgery practice to ensure that they will enjoy the full range of benefits the treatment has to offer with minimal risk of side effects.

Are you a good candidate for Juvéderm® injections? If you would like to find out, we encourage you to schedule your initial consultation with Dr. Richard Bendor-Samuel or Dr. Louis Boileau at The Landings Surgical Centre today.

What Are Juvéderm® Injections?

Juvéderm® is a dermal filler gel that is hyaluronic acid based. Hyaluronic acid is a protein that occurs naturally within the human body. It is a “water-loving” protein in that it easily binds to and absorbs water. It does the same when it is injected into hollow areas of your facial skin, which is why the results of Juvéderm® injections tend to last longer than those of dermal fillers that do not contain hyaluronic acid. In fact, Juvéderm® can restore fullness and smooth out wrinkles for up to a year, at which point treatment can safely be repeated.

Juvéderm® injections can be administered on their own, in combination with other dermal fillers, or in combination with BOTOX® Cosmetic. While Juvéderm® and BOTOX® Cosmetic are both injectable treatments, Juvéderm® is used to add volume to hollow areas with a filler substance while BOTOX® Cosmetic relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkling. Generally, our doctors use Juvéderm® to treat wrinkles in the lower half of the face and BOTOX® injections to treat frown lines, wrinkles in the brow, and crow’s feet.

Determining Candidacy for Juvéderm®

In order to be considered a good candidate for Juvéderm® injections, you must be in good health and have realistic expectations for treatment. You are most likely a good candidate for treatment if you suffer from:

  • Marionette lines: Lines that extend from the corners of the mouth to the bottom of the chin
  • Nasolabial folds: Lines that extend from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth
  • Lip lines: Vertical lines that appear just above the upper lip
  • Sunken cheeks: Hollow areas in the cheeks where fat has disappeared
