PRP

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a concentration of a patient's own growth factors used in both practical and cosmetic medical applications.

At the Landings Surgical Centre in Halifax, Nova Scotia, we use this solution to provide non-surgical skin rejuvenation and hair regrowth.

Are you ready to take a closer look at what advanced PRP treatment can do for you?

Turn Back the Clock Using Your Body's Own Healing Powers

Skin Rejuvenation

We can inject PRP in specific areas of facial tissue to spur collagen production and the development of new blood vessels, which can make skin more plump and supple. These reactions can repair damaged skin in a way that reduces fine lines and wrinkles, helping you to look alert, refreshed, and generally more vibrant. Because your own blood is the key ingredient, the risk of a negative reaction is minimal. A complete treatment usually involves three to six sessions taking place over the course of three to six months. We will create a custom treatment timeline based on your needs and goals.

Hair Regrowth

The market has absolutely no shortage of solutions for hair loss. There are many choices, ranging from oral medication to surgery. Research has shown that the injection of PRP in areas of thinning hair is effective in treating male androgenic alopecia without any significant side effects. During a consultation at our Halifax, Nova Scotia, practice, your doctor can determine if this approach can help you restore a youthful head of hair. This hair restoration method usually involves three sessions over four to six months, with periodic ongoing follow-up treatment sessions.

Non-Surgical Skin Rejuvenation

acne scars
This approach to facial rejuvenation has shown positive and measurable results in treating blemishes such as acne scars. If these or other blemishes are causing you dissatisfaction with your appearance, but you do not feel ready for a more invasive solution, we can determine if this approach is right for you. We welcome patients from throughout Prince Edward Island.

What Is PRP?

Your blood consists of plasma, white cells, red cells, and platelets. Platelets contain growth factors, which are proteins that play a significant role in healing. Platelet-rich plasma is created by drawing a patient's blood and separating the platelets from the other blood cells by placing part of the blood sample in a centrifuge. The resulting concentration of platelets is combined with the remaining blood, resulting in a platelet concentration that is five to 10 times higher than usual.

PRP is often used in sports medicine to expedite healing following injuries to tendons, ligaments, and other tissues. However, PRP injections also have rejuvenating properties. We are excited to use PRP injections as a means of helping many of our patients achieve the rejuvenation they desire without the need for a more invasive solution.

How PRP Hair Restoration Works

It is important to understand that regrowing hair using PRP treatment is not a one-time procedure. Instead, it usually consists of three treatment sessions scheduled over a period of four to six months, with touch-up injections recommended about every four to six months afterward.

During each session:

What to Expect during Facial PRP Therapy

Like PRP hair restoration, facial PRP therapy at our Halifax office requires about 10 minutes to draw the blood and prepare the platelet-rich plasma. Next, the PRP will be strategically injected in the designated areas. It may take three to six sessions scheduled about a month apart to achieve your desired results. After each session, you may experience some bruising and swelling. You can go to work or school the day after PRP therapy, but plan to avoid any strenuous activity for at least 72 hours.
