As lines and creases begin to form on the forehead, many patients feel that their face takes on an older and more worn down appearance. For many, wrinkles and loose skin age facial features beyond their years. At The Landings Surgical Centre, our skilled plastic surgeons can perform a brow lift to smooth and tighten the skin across the forehead while raising the position of the eyebrows. These alterations serve to restore a more youthful and refreshed appearance to our patients. There are three techniques that are considered when a patient comes to us requesting a brow lift procedure. One that is preferred by many of our Nova Scotia patients is the endoscopic brow lift technique, which allows our surgeons to make very precise alterations through a procedure that is minimally invasive for our patients.

Candidates

Among the three techniques that are considered for smoothing out the skin of the forehead, each have its own pros and cons. The technique that is chosen for each patient will be largely dependent on what degree of alteration is required and which technique is most likely to produce the patient’s desired results. An endoscopic brow lift offers very precise alteration of the underlying tissues and muscles across the forehead. However, the degree of alteration is slightly limited with an endoscopic brow lift, so it is best suited for patients who do not require as drastic changes.

The Endoscopic Procedure

An endoscopic brow lift is considered less invasive because it utilizes a series of short incisions rather than one long incision, which is typical of a traditional brow lift. These incisions are made just large enough so that an endoscope and surgical instruments can be passed through. An endoscope is a small hollow tube with a camera on the end, which gives our surgeons a view of the underlying tissues and muscles. With the guidance of the endoscope, the surgeon is able to manipulate the facial muscles to smooth out lines, wrinkles, and creases. The position of the eyebrows can also be raised and, if necessary, excess skin can be removed and lifted at the incision sites before closing the incisions.

Benefits

For those who are ideal candidates for an endoscopic brow lift, there are a number of benefits. The first of which is the fact that it is a less invasive procedure. As a result of this less-invasive technique, most patients also benefit from a fairly quick recovery, one that is typically shorter than recovery from traditional brow lift surgery. And, of course, once recovery is complete, patients benefit from a smoother forehead, lifted brows, and, overall, a more refreshed and revitalized appearance, which should last for many years to come.
