Halifax, Nova Scotia and Surrounding Maritimes (New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, as Well as Newfoundland) — Liposuction

In spite of disciplined exercise and dietary practices, many people find that they are unable to rid themselves of resistant pockets of extra fat on certain areas of the body. The optimum treatment for this condition, available at The Landings Surgical Centre in Halifax to those in and around Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland, is liposuction.

Liposuction Candidacy

Liposuction is an extraordinarily flexible procedure, appropriate both as a standalone treatment for excess body fat and as a treatment performed in combination with other procedures, including breast lift, breast reduction, surgery for gynecomastia, tummy tuck, and body lift procedures. Almost any generally healthy person who is affected by isolated fat deposits is a good candidate for liposuction.

It is important to remember, however, that liposuction is not a weight loss procedure. If your goal is to lose a significant amount of weight, you should seek out another approach. In addition, liposuction is not an effective treatment option for skin conditions such as stretch marks and cellulite.

Tumescent and Ultrasonic Liposuction Techniques

At The Landings Surgical Centre, tumescent liposuction is the most commonly used liposuction technique. This procedure involves the injection of a fluid containing anesthetic and saline to loosen fat and also to minimize bleeding and other complications. After administering the tumescent fluid, our surgeons insert a small suction tube through a discreet incision to remove the appropriate fat deposits.

Some areas of the body, such as the love handles or male breasts, respond better to ultrasonic liposuction. In this procedure, the suction tube vibrates at a very high frequency to break up fat deposits, making them easier to remove. Patients are evaluated thoroughly to determine which liposuction technique is best for them.

Recovery from Liposuction

One of the most important advantages of liposuction is its relatively brief recovery period. Immediately following the procedure, the treated areas are likely to be sore, but this soreness can be controlled with rest and medication. The legs should be kept elevated for a few days after surgery. Most patients are able to resume sedentary work less than a week after liposuction, and strenuous activity is safe within three weeks.

Although recovery is quick, most patients do not see immediate benefits from liposuction. Residual swelling from the treatment dissipates over the course of four to six months after treatment to reveal the full benefits of surgery. Although rare, complications, including numbness, discoloration, and skin irregularities, may occur. With our exemplary safety record, very few patients who choose The Landings Surgical Centre for their aesthetic surgery needs experience serious complications from liposuction procedures. In some cases, a touchup procedure can further improve the aesthetic results of the initial treatment.
