Candidates for Labiaplasty

The ideal labiaplasty candidates at our Halifax cosmetic surgery practice are fully developed women who are sincerely concerned by their labia, a term which refers to the inner and/or outer vaginal lips. This concern stems from asymmetry or enlargement of the labia, a characteristic that often yields self-consciousness in the person or causes pain during sexual intercourse.

As with prospective patients of other body, breast, or face procedures, Dr. Bendor-Samuel and Dr. Boileau will work to understand your individual needs during the labiaplasty consultation process. In addition to gaining insight into your cosmetic goals, determining your eligibility for the procedure relies heavily on a thorough review of your medical history, as well as your current physical and emotional health.

The Labiaplasty Procedure

The purpose of this particular surgery is to achieve the desired shape or size of the labia. During the labiaplasty procedure, your Landings Surgical Centre surgeon will shorten large or uneven inner vaginal lips using a specialized surgical instrument. The outer lips can be reduced surgically or via liposuction as well. The exact technique and incision location depends on your unique treatment plan and goals.

You may be pleased to learn that dissolvable stitches are used for this surgery. Many of our patients also opt to undergo simultaneous skin treatment, such as mole removal or scar revision.

Labiaplasty Recovery

What does recovery entail? Patients who undergo labiaplasty at our Halifax, Nova Scotia surgical facilities may experience swelling, tenderness, or slight bruising in the genitals and labia for about four weeks. To reduce the risk of infection and ease any physical discomfort, your doctor may prescribe oral medication or antibiotics.

Patients should refrain from sexual intercourse for about a month after surgery to ensure the most successful results possible. Dr. Bendor-Samuel or Dr. Boileau will recommend ceasing intense exercise and physical activities for three or four weeks as well.
