Rejuvenate Your Appearance through Brow Lift Surgery

Also known as a forehead lift, brow lift surgery can be performed alone or in conjunction with blepharoplasty at our Nova Scotia practice. Brow lift addresses the appearance of tired, sad, or angry looking eyes that result from excess skin and fat around the eyelids due to the natural aging process. A brow lift can also be performed at the same time as a face lift to tighten the muscles in the mid and lower face for optimal rejuvenation. The procedure is also beneficial for individuals who have a naturally low, sagging brow or who have developed lines and folds from muscle stress. Our plastic surgeons are experienced in a variety of brow lift techniques, which offer patients from the surrounding areas of Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland a youthful-looking, vibrant result.

Brow Lift Techniques

There are three different brow lift techniques that can be used to produce the most natural-looking results. During the traditional brow lift procedure, an incision is made behind the hairline, which extends above the ears and across the scalp. The incision is designed to be unnoticeable after the healing process. In some cases, the incision can be placed in the middle of the scalp or in front of the hairline, depending on the needs of the patient. The surgeon then removes excess skin, muscle, and fatty tissue and lifts the eyebrows into a more youthful position.

Our surgeons can also perform limited endoscopic brow lift surgery to enhance the appearance of patients who require less drastic changes. This procedure is minimally invasive since only a few tiny incisions on the scalp are necessary.  During the endoscopic brow lift procedure, a thin tube attached to a video camera, called an endoscope, as well as several other small surgical instruments, are inserted through the incisions in order to help the surgeon enhance the appearance of the brow and forehead areas.

In addition to these two techniques, BOTOX® injections can be used to address areas of limited concern, such as frown lines between the eyebrows. BOTOX® Cosmetic is made of a substance that paralyzes the muscles, which smoothes out lines and wrinkles.

The technique that the surgeon will use depends on the position of the eyebrows, the height of the hairline, and the amount of excess skin on the upper eyelids. Our surgeons can determine which technique is most suited for your needs during an initial brow lift consultation at our practice. Please contact The Landings Surgical Centre today to schedule an initial consultation.

Recovery from Brow Lift Surgery

The amount of time it takes to recover from brow lift surgery depends on the technique used by the surgeon. After surgery, patients may experience headaches and a sore scalp for a few days. Bruising and swelling can linger for up to two weeks, but camouflage makeup can be used immediately after surgery to conceal any discoloration. Patients may also experience itching or numbness while the nerves heal. Such discomfort can be controlled with prescription pain medication. Patients can also limit pain or discomfort by using cold compresses or keeping their head elevated and limiting facial movement. Staples, sutures, and surgical screws can be taken out after two weeks, at which point patients are usually able to see the final results of their brow lift procedure.
